I’m going to address your problem with not being able to project your voice. Simply put–you don’t know how to sing. That simply means you have a voice that you don’t really know how to use well yet. When you sing in choir, you don’t always have to project. You have to blend in with the people around you. You have to stay in pitch. If you sing as a solo singer, you need to bring your voice out more to be heard over background music and/or other singers. And a LOT of this has to do with breath control. Your lung disease WILL be a factor in how well you can take in air and control how you breathe when you sing. It doesn’t mean you can’t have any control over your breath or tone at all–but these things are difficult to master well even if your lungs are perfectly healthy. Ask your choir teacher if she can help guide you with a couple of exercises that might help you with your breathing and tone. Take voice lessons if you really want to improve, and you can ask your choir teacher for names of people who can train you properly (if she doesn’t give private lessons herself).

I say it over and over. Singing is physical. You don’t expect someone to read a book on ballet positions or watch a video of "The Nutcracker" then go out and dance perfectly. Yet we seem to think anyone can learn to sing doing these things. There are things to be learned even when you already "sing good". You can sing better. You literally need to train muscles involved in singing to work a certain way to produce the sound you want to make. But we are also all limited by whatever physical problems or attributes we may have.

Meanwhile, try to straighten out the technical problems with your recording equipment. Invest in a good microphone. Sometimes cheap microphones use with karaoke machines are just terrible. They actually "cut out" when you sing into them–the volume of the background drops lower for some reason.
