   I always thought that Karaoke was a Japanese word. Hmm.

   It’s Japanese.

   Written normally in katakana, カラオケ. Probably for more emphasis, though it is a Japanese word and has Chinese characters (aka Kanji).

   So, it’s kanji is 空オケ first character means “empty” second are short for the Japanese word for “orchestra”

   ZOMG! it means “empty orchestra!” because you sing to nothing mostly!

   Wow, the more you learn the more you know.

   It’s a Japanese word and it doesn’t mean tone deaf. I think someone need to do a little more resource on how to tell the difference between Chinese and Japanese, because it’s no way that could ever be a Chinese word. It’s doesn’t even look Chinese it look Japanese.

   Karaoke was first invented by German but was made popular in Japan. Even the word Karaoke was a German word but I forgot the real spelling.
