OK. So, here I am on assignment in Taichung for the second time. It’s going to be a longer stay, and I have time on my hands.
I’m wondering if there are any karaoke pubs in Taichung like we have in Hualien. I’m walking around the local area, and frankly… I don’t hear anyone singing at all in this neighborhood. Such a thing is nearly impossible in Hualien, where there are people singing together nightly in various venues within most every neighborhood. After a short search, I have yet to find that type of social interaction here in Taichung’s north end. Other than heading off to a potential trouble spot such as Jin Chien Bao (an upscale KTV with the sexy girls snuggling with customers in semi-private rooms), might their be any friendly little local place where an older, married foreigner could hang out, share a beer, and listen to some Taiwanese-style singing?
[Typo in the last question: "their" should be "there"]
Honestly, no matter how comfortable it might be, long-term living in a hotel just ain’t that much fun. In addition, going out sightseeing alone isn’t really my favorite pasttime.
@Mister Duck: Got the Chinese names for those places? Are any of them anywhere near or north of the Evergreen hotel?
@Duck – First off, thanks for the leads. However, those all seem to be Gay Bars. I have no problem with such pubs in Hualien, as the patrons, bar owners, police, and HeiDao know me well enough. I’m not sure I’d be comfortable in one of those places in Taichung where I’d be a "stranger" without a proper calling card or escort. Send me an email, if you care to explain more privately. Thanks.
