Who Performs on Karaoke Discs? and Why Don't They Use

Well here’s a question I just had to answering straight away:

Question: Who Performs on Karaoke Discs? and Why Don't They Use the Original Artists?
Answer: Studio musicians sing the back up vocals and play the instrumentals on the tracks for the discs. They are hired by the production companies that create them. Each production company creates their own so there may be 20 different versions of the same song (some good, some awful). Most of the original artists make millions of dollars per year and would not waste their time singing for a karaoke track, let alone 20 of them. Studio musicians make a decent living, but no where near what a main stream "star" makes.
