Would You Buy a 3 Year Old a Karaoke Machine?

This week’s question is as follows:

Question: Would I be insane to buy my kid one for her birthday?
I am not talking about a big one. I was speaking of the machines especially for children. Not a high tech, club machine! LOL
Answer: Sure! My little cousins had one and the one who was only two at the time LOVED it. Especially if she enjoys singing, she’ll like it. Does it record as well?

Do you remember when the hand held recorder from the Home Alone movie became popular? With the voice warp? And they sold it in the kids’ section as a kids’ toy? I got one for my birthday when I was around 7 and loved it and used it all the time… I know it’s not the same as a karaoke machine but similar concept. It may be something that might be more for older kids, but I also know kids who like to sing along and hear themselves sing from early on and would love something like that.

does he like singing than sure. But thats a kinda expensive thing but keep in mind, the worst thing to od in live is to spoil your kid. But if u think she might have a career in singing than go 4 it.

Buy a really nice one for use at a party? Yes. I would rent one instead. But still how many songs could a 3 year old sing or recognize?
Get one of those microphone ones from Toys R Us and let her sign to her heart’s content. Maybe even just get her a fake mic.

I got something similar for my daughter for her 3rd birthday it was a cd player that has a microphone attached to it. You can play any cd you like but doesnt connect to the tv so she could read the lyrics. She loved it and still uses it today and she is 5!

Well, can she read? ‘Cause isn’t that the point of karaoke, that you can read the lyrics off the screen? Other than that, I don’t think it’s insane, they make a bunch especially for children, and I’m sure she’d really enjoy it.

your kid will surly have fun with it…you may want to invest in some cottonballs for your own ears, but go for it…My 3 year old had a drum set….that makes ME nuts.

hummm. maybe. does she just need a mic and a beat? my son has the kitty piano from target. it’s got some super phat beats and the microphone doesn’t particularly work at magnifying his voice too loudly but he can make really good sounds just going "uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" into the microphone. I think they still have it at target…take her there and see if she likes it (it has batteries in it on the shelf so she can play with it to see if she likes it).

also, it plays songs so she can sing along with them. it says 2+ years though, so maybe G would do better with something else? just trying to throw out ideas though…

but I wouldn’t go with a full out karaoke thing just because that does seem a bit complicated for a 3 year old…if you want something that she can sing along with to CDs that you have then I’d get a really basic one. the kitty piano is cool though, take my word for it. she can play on it too with the keyboard.
